The Department of Mechanical Engineering started the journey in 1960, and successfully completed 72 years with excellence. Mechanical Engineering is the leading branch and among the best department as recognized by DSTTE Bihar. At present, the department is the largest in the institute with 11 faculty members. Currently our department offers only UG course for students. At the time of establishment of department the intake for UG course was 30 however at present the intake has increased to 60 in first year and 20% seats in second year is admitted through Lateral entry.

Our Faculty members and lab instructors have excellent academic credentials and are highly regarded. Many of the faculty members have membership in one or more professional societies. Our experienced faculty members stay current in their fields through various research and consulting activities, as well as through membership and appointments in professional societies.

The UG course in Mechanical Engineering is designed to equip students with a unique blend of skill sets that involves production, designing and operations of machines. Mechanical Engineer thinks design, realizes new products and processes, improves and optimizes existing technologies. As per current requirement of industry and to make them ready for job our department uses blended learning approach to enhance the teaching learning process. Our labs are fully equipped as per the curriculum of AICTE and time to time we impart lab practices through virtual lab developed Under the National Mission on Education through ICT.

With their academic excellence and skills set, the alumni of our department have achieved higher post in Government sectors like SAIL, ISRO, BARC, NTPC, IOCL, EIL, CIL etc as well as MNCs like TCS, IBM. After graduating students have ample opportunities in the field of Mechanical engineering like aerospace, automotive, manufacturing, nuclear technology, robotics, energy systems and operations management.
